A good, hearty laugh relieves physical tension and stress, leaving your muscles relaxed. Laughter boosts the immune system. Laughter decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies. This powerful stress-relief medicine is even more effective when it's administered at a comedy club, where's there's just something very special about feeling part of the audience laughing as one.
Anyway, the virus has screwed all that up for the foreseeable future. We can't see comedy clubs opening any time soon and we need them more than ever right now.
So comedian Tom Binns (aka Hospital DJ Ivan Brackenbury) has had this idea of the Drive-in Comedy Club, based on the romantic drive-in cinemas from the golden age of America. It will be just like the ones you've seen in the movies but with live comedy and rain and it will probably be in a Lidl car park.
Tom was a warm-up man at the BBC for many years and understands how important it is that the sound of laughter is shared between the cars and the comic on stage - otherwise, it'll be no better than some drive-in movie event that's chucked a couple of comics on as an afterthought along with a silent disco *shudders*
Tom financed the technical gubbins by selling 52 Golden Tickets in advance to a group of people who took a leap of faith in him. In a way* their trust in him means more than the financial help.
*not really but it feels like that
He's now scraping the money together to pimp his van into a stage area. Hey guys what's that below? a tip jar?
Anyone who contributes below via the tip jar will get a drive-in comedy tab for the amount tipped +20% That's Comedy Credit* to spend at the club when it opens on tickets or booze*
*Not actual credit I'll have the financial ombudsman on my back
**not the driver and only if we're allowed to sell stuff.
